Pattern Making- The Late Bustle Era Bodice

Congratulations-
You have drafted your basic sloper frame

O.K., now we're going to prepare it for easier transfer to a paper pattern.

Trace around all pieces of the sloper, with a black ink pen. I like fine tip Sharpies. Make sure you trace the waistline and the bust darts as well. Do not trace all of your "placement" lines that were used as guides, as they will only confuse things.

Once you have them defined with the black pen- get a handful of different color highlighters and highlight each bodice piece so that you can easily see which piece you are tracing when you transfer the sloper to a paper pattern.

It should look something like this. It is worth the time to do this! When you trace it off in order to add seam allowances, etc. all of the crisscrossing lines can get very confusing, and if you lift your paper to see which one you really wanted it can slip on you very easily!

At this time you should also mark matching notches on the pattern to help you line up the pieces after you have added your seam allowances. This can be either a diamond shape crossing into both pattern pieces, or simply a short line.
