Margaret Laton's Jacket

Museum No. T.228-1994

This jacket dates to around 1610. It was altered around 1620. It is embroidered with silver and silver gilt thread, colored silks, bobbin lace and spangles. It's lined with silk taffeta, and originally tied with pink silk ribbons. The bobbin lace was added in the 1620s, and the ribbons removed. The high quality of the embroidery suggests that it was professionally made.
