Love this, now I want to get the book ! A question though: you said that the author raises the question, "Where did King Henry get his tapestries? What subjects did he prefer, and why? How did his tastes differ from his son/s?"

Henry had only one son, Edward, the wanted male child that Hank turned England on its head for. Edward was coached by uber-Protestant advisers to eschew or outright ban the Catholic ceremony and beauty that his father had kept in the Church of England, and he died at the age of 15. Will have to read the book I guess to find out how he had time for tapestry appreciation at all. :)

What a delicious article! Thank you for your generous description of the textiles (surely the least durable of sixteenth-century artifacts) used by the Tudor dynasty as well as their noble buddies.

I'm working to find the twenty-first century comparable cost of a rig worn by nobility in sixteenth-century England.
Not as easy as one might think; any suggestions where to look?
There is always the distinct possibility that I'm a total dope and this is commonly known information. . . xo, cheers and thank you again!

I came across a reference a few years ago to Henry VIII owning a set of tapestries that depict scenes from Christine de Pizan's book "The City of Ladies", but can find no image of them or any other details apart from that he owned a set of tapestries. Does this book mention anything about them - when they were commissioned, how many of them there were or anything at all? I'd be most obliged for any answers you could provide, thank you!
